Celebrating the life of
Janet Carol Waters Hunton
January 20, 1954 - May 16, 2017
In the afternoon of May 16, 2017, Janet Carol Waters Hunton was reunited with her parents Juanell (Nell) "mama" and Robert, "papa" Waters; devoted companions Achetes and Julia and beloved friend Patricia. Gratefully, she died peacefully at Hospice House in Savannah.
She is survived by her loving husband, friend and companion, William "Bill" of Savannah; caring cousins Margaret of New Smyrna, Florida and Valerie, Alec and Susan living in England, niece and nephew, Charlotte and Wayne Lyssy of Mobile, her sister Wanda Ann Carlo and niece and nephew Jessica and Evan of Valdosta, also her aunt Anna Lee Lightsey of Baxley.
Janet will be buried in a private ceremony in a quaint, serene and garden like cemetery outside of Savannah. She graduated from Brunswick Junior College and Georgia Southern University. She followed a lengthy career as a staff member of Museum homes including the Davenport House. Her proudest accomplishment was opening her own shop in City Market, Savannah. She was a devoted Catholic, owing much of her religious strength to Monsignor William O. O'Neill, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Not to be forgotten are her true loves, four remaining companion pets, Hillary, Chi-Chi, Misty and Cinder. I miss you and will love you eternally - Bill.
Dearest Uncle Bill. We continually lift prays for you, Janet, family and friends. You are in our daily thoughts and prayers. We cherish our memories, laughter, love, and happiness. The closeness of family bonds that stretch across time and miles doesn't change the sorrow that we share. We are always here for you. Love always, Charlotte
- Wayne, Charlotte, Kathryn, and Daniel Lyssy, Mobile, AL

Bill , It is very hard to absorb but the Good Lord works in mysterious ways. Take comfort in knowing Janet is resting in a very peaceful place.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Janet, such a lovely person. She was a good friend to me when I interned on Jekyll Island 1986-87. I admired how she ran the historic district's gift shop and was happy to learn she ran her own enterprise in Savannah. I'm sorry I wasn't able to see her again but will hold memories of her close to my heart. Deepest condolences to husband, family and friends -- and beloved pets (I will also always remember Achetes).
- Kate (nee Denison) Bell, Ballymote, Co. Sligo IRELAND,
I was saddened to hear of Janet's death from Jamie Credle. We worked together for 4 years at the Jekyll Island Museum. She was a kind person and a good co-worker. I continued to see her occasionally when she was at Davenport House and admired the work she did there. Later I was excited to visit her shop in Savannah because I know she loved it so and was so proud of it. I had not seen her in quite a few years but still remember fondly the friendship we shared and our work experiences together. My heartfelt sympathy to you, her family. I wish for you the comfort and peace of Christ in this difficult time.

Jamie Credle of Davenport House in Savannah shared Janet's obituary with me this morning and I was shocked. I lived in Maryland for years and had lost track of Janet, but I remember her fondly from our days of working together at the Jekyll Island Museum. I admired her energy and dedication, and enjoyed her sense of humor. My condolences to her family.

We are so sorry to read of the sad, untimely death of Janet and send deepest sympathy. May memories of happy times together and the resurrection hope we share of seeing our loved ones again, give you a measure of strength and comfort in this difficult time of sorrow. (John 11:25) With prayers The Dawes family

I have many fond memories of Janet from Historic Savannah Foundation when she was Director of Davenport House. We traveled together to museum meetings. So sorry her life on earth was shortened, gladdened of her time with Bill.
